Confined Space Entry - Course Objectives?

It is critically important that the people involved in making confined space entries are qualified and experienced and therefore trained in the associated hazards, which unfortunately in many circumstances is not the case. Also, when seeing a colleague collapsed within an enclosed space it is a natural impulsive reaction to rush in and assist. Unfortunately this is one of the main causes of fatalities as over 50% of the workers who die in confined spaces are attempting to rescue other workers who have found themselves in difficulty.

Most important is training ensures legal compliance when work involves confines space entry. All confined space training includes some hands-on training with the safety equipment including protective equipment, safety harnesses and therefore builds up competence. Training provides an opportunity to refresh rescue procedures that should be practiced frequently so there is a high level of proficiency. Organization should maintain records of all such confined space training including refresher courses.

Who Can Take Confined Space Entry Training?

Every worker that enters a confined space must have hands-on training as an essential part of CSE training. Supervisor and all workers with emergency rescue responsibilities will need additional specialized training.
